A unique product, Vodkress is a vodka infused with watercress in the line of «eau de vie» imagined in a greener spirit. It nobly combines the famous elixir and this subtle vegetable. The virtues of watercress have been renowned since Greek and Roman antiquity.
In the Middle Ages, this plant was known exclusively in its wild state and grew on the banks of fountains and streams. It was then used as a depura tive. In 1811, General Cardon, mandated by Napoleon Bonaparte after having observed the first watercress beds in Germany, began to cultivate watercress in France in the Oise.
The Fontaine Val Profond, a natural spring, was discovered in the Chantilly estate to allow the manual cultivation of watercress.
Little by little, the watercress harvest grew and horse-drawn carriages transported it to the train stations and the Halles de Paris, the «belly» of the city. Watercress farming has not changed much, despite modern techniques and efficient greenhouses, because watercress is still grown immersed in spring water in the hollow of ditches.
Today, Vodkress combines the purest vodka with the noblest wa tercress for an artisanal recipe that perpetuates the terroir and French gastronomy.
