The Milanese exhibition “Dal cuore alle mani: Dolce & Gabbana” (From the heart to the hands), dedicated to the two Italian designers, is a real journey into the sources of inspiration and imagination of the House.

First stop before an international tour, it is magnificently organized in the sumptuous Palazzo Reale, facing the Duomo by the art historian Florence Müller, Director of the Union Française des Arts du Costume, at the Musée d’Arts Décoratifs in Paris .

This true declaration of love for artisanal know-how and Italian culture traces, from the origins in 1985, the creative journey of its founders. In ten sumptuous rooms, visi tors can admire 200 pieces of haute couture and fine jewelry, all born from their hearts to come to life and form, thanks to the most talented hands of Italian craftsmanship. To discover this magic of a thousand and one colors, a priest in a cassock very close to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, Monsignor Alberto Rocca, Director of the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, guides guests through the rooms of the Museum on certain days.

Ostentatious, baroque, hand-embroidered and wildly precious clothing embody the mes dear to the House. Flowers, leopard prints, religious accessories, rosaries, crucifixes and tiaras strongly evoke Sicily.

The paintings by Anh Duong interact with the creations of Dolce & Gabbana from the moment you enter. Antique mirrors and chandeliers from Venetian glass makers play their sumptuous reflections with sparkling crystal lace. T he scene from the film The Leopard (1961) by Luchino Visconti inspired a magni f icent corset dress, worn by Claudia Cardinale in the famous film alongside Alain Delon. Devotion and religious imagery dance in a sumptuous opulence of Sicilian gold and black.

The tailoring workshop has been faithfully recreated and on Fridays the teams of tailors and embroiderers come to work there, revealing their virtuosity to the general public. From the Renaissance to Giacomo Serpotta, an Italian sculptor typical of White Ba roque and Rococo, the creations feature the most joyful hues up to the vaporous and angelic clarity that is Serpotta’s signature.

The Greek deities in the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento and the mosaics recall the Byzantine basilicas in Italy and the exhibition ends inside a real Opera House with the representation of a lavish Sicilian feast.

A vibrant tribute to these purely Italian creators and their marvelous expression of the Dolce Vita, to be savored with delight to emerge with eyes full of stars and a furious desire for a trip to the Apulian sun.
